AP Placement and Configuration
Thischapterprovidesinformationfortheantennainstallerandnetworkmanagertodetermine
wheretoplacetheRoamAboutAPandLightningProtector.
Determining the Location of the AP
TheRoamAboutAPconnectstoaLightningProtectorwitha51‐centimeter(20‐inch)cable.The
LightningProtectorconnectstotheoutdoorantennawithastandard6.1‐meter(20‐foot),7.6‐meter
(25‐foot),15.24‐meters(50‐foot),ora22‐meter(75‐foot)low‐losscable.Alongercablewill
decrease
thedistanceachievablebetweenantennas.TheideallocationtoinstallyourRoamA boutAPand
LightningProtectormustsatisfythefollowingrequirements:
•ThelocationmustbeindoorstoprotecttheAPfromextremeweatherconditions,excessive
heatandhumidity,andtokeeptheunitfreefromvibrationanddust.
•TheLightning
Protectorandantennamastmustbeconnectedtothesameearthground(using
separategrounds),astheACwalloutletgroundusinganequipotentialbondingconductor.
•ThelocationmustprovideaconnectiontothenetworkbackboneviaanEthernetLANcable
goingtoahub,bridge,ordirectlyintoapatch
panel.
•Thelocationmustbeclosetowherethelow‐lossantennacablewillenterthebuilding.The
low‐losscableconnectingtheantennatotheLightningProtectorshouldnotexceed75feetin
lengthfor2.4GHz,or50feetinlengthfor5GHz,duetothe distancereduction
withlonger
cables.
